What's it like to live in/around Hartford, CT, as a married couple in their 30s with toddlers?

We'll be relocating to CT for my husband's job and after a quick search, I keep seeing comments that says everyone is leaving/wants to leave CT.
Besides having all four seasons, having great public school system, being close to NY, mountains and the coast, what else do you like about living there?
We have family and friends in NY and Boston but none in CT. Is it fairly easy to meet people and befriend them? I love to read, so I'm interested to know how the public libraries are. Are there any soccer leagues to play and sports bar to hang out? We also like to try new cuisine. What is your favorite restaurant if you only had to pick one?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Top Comment: It depends on what culture you’re used to. Like Manhattan - CT has its really nice places and its really awful places, 10 minutes away from each other. What’s your budget like? What towns are you thinking of? Obviously wealthier towns have more funding for their community. Places like Avon, West Hartford, Newington, or Farmington have great school systems and have the money for things like soccer leagues, but are somewhat further away from Hartford (with the exception of West Hartford). Those are also the towns that have a “center”, where social activities thrive. For example, “West Hartford Center” or “Blue Back Square” is filled with bars, restaurants, and small expensive shops. Prices range from $15/person to $60/person in restaurants. Some are family friendly, others are not. The library and townhall are also located there. It’s lively every weekend, especially during warmer seasons. The population is also extremely diverse. There are all sorts of cuisine in the area - nothing compared to NYC or Boston though. I eat out way too much for me to list all the places, but here are a few recommended: Prime16 (Burgers, New Haven), Sayulita’s (Mexican, Glastonbury), Ocho Cafe (Mexican, West Hartford), Min Ghung (Sushi, Glastonbury), Angelina’s (Pizza, West Hartford), Frank Pepe’s (Pizza, New Haven), Pho Boston (Vietnamese food, West Hartford/Hartford), Zocco’s (Italian, Windsor), Blue Elephant (Thai, West Hartford), Sweet Chili (Thai, Hartford). Bricco (Italian, West Hartford). I’ve never lived in Hartford - only friends have, so this is an outside perspective..it’s not that safe of a place to be around at night. Somewhat useful info for your children: Ranked Public High Schools in CT I don’t think there are any reliable sources for elementary schools, but here is an article (that is possible bias) for top 100 Elementary schools in CT dated 2017. Safest places to live in CT 2021?

I’m on the verge of moving from the worst city in CT (guess which one haha) and am looking for a nice, affordable, and overall Safe town/city to move into. I’ve grown up in the city I’m currently from and my family and I have finally had enough of it. Houses and condos are more of an interest instead of apartments (parents like to eventually own their properties) and the interest of a social life (things to do) are not a real concern or care in the world. Basically, we’re just trying to become a family from the suburbs and live a peaceful life. Any suggestions would really help!
